Does Acupuncture hurt?

When will I expect results

We start with a Holistic Health Interview…

Acupuncture is a holistic healing modality, meaning we like to get a full picture of all aspects of your health, not only in the area of you complaint. This is because in Chinese Medicine, your body’s systems ae all intricately interwoven. Not just one aspect of health can be unwell without it having an impact on other organs and systems.

This can take between 30minute-1hr, then you will finish off with a treatment during this initial appointment.

Please wear loose, baggy clothing where possible…

This allows me to access acupuncture points easily. In some cases, you will be asked to remove relevant items of clothing so that I can access the necessary acupuncture points.

All needles are sterile and single use…

Only the highest safety and hygiene protocols are used. I use silicon coated needles for a smooth and painless insertion.

Acupuncture should be a relaxing experience…

“Does Acupuncture Hurt?” is one of the most common questions I am asked. Acupuncture should not be a painful experience, yes there may be some uncomfortable aspects to it, but it should be a relaxing experience to have.

When needling an acupuncture point, we look for a feeling called ‘deqi’ and it tells us that our needles have connected with your energy flow. This sensation will be like an ache, and you can sometimes feel this sensation along the length of the acupuncture channel being treated.

You will likely feel benefit straight away. However, long standing issues may take longer to shift…

Hering’s ‘law of cure’ states symptoms should disappear in their order of appearance. Acute issues may be solved by only a few acupuncture treatments, but longer standing issues may take longer to heal depending on the duration and severity of symptoms.

Acupuncture is usually not a ‘quick fix’, however treating the core elements of the issues will provide longer-standing, deeper levels of healing.
