Acupuncture is an ancient energetic healing artform.

“A healthy person’s energy, or ‘Qi’ (pronounced chee), will be free-flowing, without obstruction”

One of the main focuses of acupuncture treatment is to balance and maintain the flow of Qi in the body’s energetic pathways. We use acupuncture points on 14 main energetic pathways, called channels or meridians, to alter to flow of Qi and restore balance.

Think of the channels like rivers - Qi flows through the channels like water flows down a river. If the river is blocked, we need to remove the cause of the blockage so the water can move on; if a river dries up and the surrounding land has become affected, we need to replenish the source of the water. Sometimes, an overflowing river needs water to be diverted in order to restore balance.

By assessing your ‘rivers’ and your Qi, I can work to assist you in balancing your vital energy.

Integrated Styles of Chinese Medicine:

Traditional Chinese Medicine and 5 Element Acupuncture

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is an ancient healing discipline that dates back to at least 202 BC - the beginning of the Han Dynasty in ancient China. Here, there is a large focus on diagnosing using symptomatic patterns within the organ systems.

5 element acupuncture is relatively modern theory, based on the ancient teachings such as the Su Wen, and developed by J.R Worsley in the 1960s and 70s. This practise focuses on balancing the 5 elemental energies within a person: Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood, allowing the body to regain balance within the body by treating your ‘Constitutional Factor (CF)’ - the body’s most significant element. This style focuses much more on the emotional imbalances within a person.

Both styles use the Pulse and Tongue to help diagnosis. During your initial appointment I will make diagnoses for both styles and formulate a treatment plan that targets the full diagnosis.

Integrating these two practices enhances treatment and targets different facets of illness. Acupuncture takes into account your whole being - body, mind and soul.
